Order of My Novels?

June 17, 2010

Ah, the master guide to returning characters.  Each book stands on its own as a novel but if you want the order of who is in what, the first trick to know is that three of the novels stand alone: Benedict Canyon, Jury Duty, and Just for the Summer.

I think of the following loosely as “The Alexandra Chronicles” because the anchorwoman, Alexandra Waring, appears in them all.

Riverside Drive begins with television news producer Cassy Cochran.

(For the continuing stories of Howard, Amanda, Rosanne, Mrs. Goldblum and the Wyattsyou can go straight to reading Riverside Park from here.)

West End is a direct sequel about Cassy building a new TV network.  Talk show hostess Jessica Wright and the Darenbrookclan first appear.  Alexandra is the national news anchor.

Alexandra’s story continues in Any Given Moment through the first appearance of Jessica Wright’s friend, movie star Georgiana Hamilton-Ayres.  (There are some other wonderful characters in this book you will love.)

DBS talk-show hostess Jessica Wright is the lead in Talk, in which Cassy and Alexandra appear.

Then comes Exposé, the first of the Sally Harrington mysteries, introducing Sally as a small city reporter who gets a huge writing assignment for a major magazine about Cassy Cochran of DBS.

In the second Sally Harrington mystery, The Last Lover, Sally is offered a job at DBS News working for Alexandra.

In the third SH mystery, Trouble Becomes Her, Sally is still working for Alexandra at DBS News.

In the fourth, The Bad Witness, Sally testifies in a sensational trial in LA, and Alexandra’s romantic life is updated.

In the fifth, The Kill Fee, Sally is still working for Alexandra at DBS News.

In the sixth, Mr. Murder, Sally is given a morning news show of her own at DBS.

And then comes, Riverside Park, which updates the story of everyone from Riverside Drive, but which also reveals what  has really been going on behind the scenes at DBS for the last ten years.
